You will find many Fishing Charter opportunities in and around Victoria. In the Melbourne area there are 2 large protected bays (Port Phillip Bay and Western Port Bay) both have lots of opportunities for fishing. However in our view the fishing in Port Phillip Bay is not as prolific as it once was. It is a very heavily fished bay especially during the warmer months. Inside the bays you can get flathead, gummy sharks, snapper (especially in the right season), pinkies, King George Whiting, squid and plenty of reef fish.
Outside the bays is Bass Strait the fishing is similar but the further you get from Melbourne the better the opportunities for larger snapper, flathead, gummy sharks, Trevally, squid and other sharks.
You have to be prepared in Victoria as there can be 4 seasons in one day. On hot summers day it might be above 40 degrees before a very strong south westerly wind can pickup in a matter of 30 seconds and make conditions on the water very dangerous. So watch the weather forecast and the tides. The tides are especially important in Port Phillip Bay as the water flowing in and out through the narrow entrance can be very dangerous for small craft.
