    Unreal Fishing Charters

Shark Bay fishing charters use a 34 foot Manta catamaran to give you an “unreal day” on Shark Bay. We want to make sure at the end of your fishing charter that you go and tell all your friends to join us. That’s the aim and that’s what we work hard on. Word of mouth is the best advertising and that’s what aim for. With that in mind join us as our twin 135hp Cat is quick, reliable and quiet. It will allow you to get to the fishing grounds quickly and enjoyably. It is much more fun to be pulling in the fish rather than travelling.

We supply all the latest Pen rods and reels, bait, ice, lunch and all refreshments.

    Company Information

    Narooma … clear blue water

The name Narooma means ‘clear blue water’ to the local Yuin people. The clean waters of the ocean, and of Wagonga Inlet, are just the start. Narooma and its whale watching, fishing, kayaking and snorkelling is only three hours south of Sydney. Whale watching and the other activities are only seven hours east of Melbourne.

Narooma provides the perfect location to enjoy fishing, game fishing, estuary fishing, snorkelling amongst the seals, kayaking, whale watching and much more from Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. The offshore fishing and snorkelling at Montague Island, and fishing and kayaking in Wagonga Inlet are a delight to all locals and visitors to the Narooma area. Montague Island Nature Reserve – an internationally recognised reserve, with seals, fairy penguins, and during the migration season, whales.

Since the areas around Narooma and Montague Island have been declared a marine national park, the fish have been increasing in numbers, and in size. There will now always be plenty for everyone. With water on both sides of Narooma, fishing is naturally a popular pastime with local residents as much as with visitors.

Take Lighthouse Charters Stage 11 boat to the edge of the continental shelf and try your luck with those big ones – marlin, tuna and kingfish. Other water activities include snorkelling amongst the seals, and kayaking in Wagonga Inlet. And of course, Lighthouse Charters will take you whale watching during the season from September to November each year.

    Stage ll

Stage ll charter boat is a 36-foot custom built fibreglass vessel powered by twin 200 horsepower turbocharged diesel engines. There is a gamechair for gamefishing, and all our equipment is of high quality. The top name lures that we use have proven themselves over and over again. Visiting Narooma? Narooma has all the facilities visitors would expect from a well-developed seaside town. There are clubs providing entertainment, and restaurants, many specialising in locally caught fresh seafood, including oysters. There’s the Narooma Shopping Plaza, numerous speciality shops, and a good range of facilities to make your visit to Narooma rewarding.

The climate is mild, even in winter, and seldom hot in summer. In summer, the temperatures range from 17 degrees to 27 degrees, and from 8 to 19 degrees in winter. No wonder locals say the area has the perfect all-year-round climate. Narooma provides a good range of accommodation to make your stay in Narooma comfortable, from camping grounds and holiday parks, boutique B and Bs, motels and cabins.

Accommodation in Narooma can be arranged – please contact us to discuss your needs.

The Batemans Marine Park is the newest and greatest natural asset in the Narooma area for nature lovers, fisherpersons, snorkellers, and those wanting a truly eco experience. The park covers an area of 850 square kilometres (85,000 hectares), from north of Batemans Bay, to Wallaga Lake near Bermagui in the south. It includes estuaries, rivers, lakes, and of course the whole coastline out to about five kilometres off shore, and the World Heritage listed Montague Island.

The marine park contains a diverse range of aquatic habitats, including the continental shelf area and the sea floor, beaches, rocky shores and headlands, reefs and islands, and sea grass beds, mangroves and estuarine habitats. And because all commercial trawling and dredging activities are banned within the marine park, this means that the fish numbers are increasing at an astounding rate, with more fish to see when you snorkel, and more fish to catch when you go fishing.

At Lighthouse Charters Narooma, we give you more than just a trip in our boat. We give you a real eco experience you will remember for long after you return home.

    Whale watching

We will take you whale watching to witness the humpback whales, the southern right whales, and maybe a giant blue whale, as well as the orcas (the killer whales). You will watch their acrobatic displays close up. You won’t just see whales … you will experience them … all in the marine park.

    Kayaking

And we will give you a real eco experience when we take you kayaking on some of the many lakes we have in the Narooma area … Brou Lake, Mummuga Lake, Corunna Lake, Wallaga Lake, and of course Wagonga Inlet.

    Snorkelling

With the increase in fish numbers and the preservation of the natural habitats, you will be able to enjoy seeing fish in their natural environments … more of them, and more often. The environments preserved in their natural condition attract fish species that belong there. You won’t just see them, you will experience them, all in their natural environment in the marine park, and close up. You will interact with the fish as they come up to you as you snorkel, and watch them interact with other life in their own environment.

    A real eco experience

In the Batemans Marine Park, you can enjoy all the activities you have become accustomed to enjoying … whale watching … fishing … canoeing … snorkeling. And when you join one of Lighthouse Charters Narooma’s eco experiences, with their qualified and experienced guide, you can be assured that your trip will be one you will remember long after you return to work. Sekoma Island Lodge

    The Sekoma Island Lodge

Based in Zambia on a “Robinson Crusoe” island on the upper Zambezi, Sekoma Lodge is a mere 80 km upriver from Victoria Falls, in the heart of world class tiger fish and bream country. Lying in the eastern corner of the Caprivi strip, it is easily accessed by flying to Livingstone in Zambia or to Kasane (Botswana). Alternatively one can drive to Kasane and leave their vehicles in a security-protected area while they enjoy a superb breakaway holiday.

Sekoma provides an ideal and affordable base for the keen angler intent on pursuing the world-renowned tiger fish as well as the large bream that abound these waters. There are many miles of productive water, including accessing the exciting floodplains fishing in season, as well as the possibility of experiencing a Zambezi catfish run.

All-method angling can be practiced all year round, but fly fishing and lure angling takes place from June – March. The biggest tiger fish taken in 2005 on fly was 16 lbs with an enviable number of double-figure fish also recorded.

Sekoma has eight luxury, twin bedded tents with en-suite bathrooms, which are fully tiled with spacious showers. Each tent is raised on wooden decks, each with their own breathtaking view of the Zambezi and the Mambova rapids (near Impalila Island). Each room can be easily converted in to one queen-size double or two singles. Each bed is set up with two comfortable pillows, a duvet, a warm blanket for winter and a throw-over sheet for the heat of summer. The bathrooms are en-suite and fully tiled. Each bathroom is supplied with soap, shampoo and towels and there is a free laundry service, just to help you cut down the over packing of clothes. Insect repellent and mosquito coils are also provided in each tent.

There is a fully thatched communal area, dining area, lounge and wooden deck extending out on to the Zambezi River. In the communal area we have a fully stocked bar, wicker sofas to relax on. From the deck, many different species of fish feed beneath the lights at night.

The lodge also has a main boma (Place of Fire), where on occasion, guests dine under the stars alongside the river. A second fireplace it situated close to the communal area so that guests can sit around the fire in winter, warming their hands, while waiting to start the day’s fishing. Fishing starts at 6.15.?(For those who wish to combine fishing with magnificent game viewing, one need go no further than the luxury Chobe Savanna Lodge, which is on the Namibian side of the Chobe River and directly opposite the Chobe National Park. Elephant and buffalo are frequently seen from the upstairs lounge of the Lodge itself.)

    Organised Fishing Tours

Sekoma Island Lodge can provide hosted fishing trips with a minimum of 4 passengers and a maximum of 16. These trips are generally 5 days/4 nights and can be arranged for longer if desired. At the start of the trip, anglers are briefed by the owner on both traditional and modern fishing techniques relevant to the target species. The overall purpose in that everybody learns on a Hosted Trip. While wild fish are never that predictable, your chance of coming to grips with trophy fish is enhanced by this approach.

    Inclusions

The accommodation, food, boat and fuel are included in the tour price. Drinks, gratuities and items of personal nature are not included and are the responsibility of individual anglers.

    Boat Fleet

Sekoma has a fleet of eight boats and 8 Ark inflatables consisting of a mixture of aluminum and fiberglass bass boats all with flat-carpeted decks. The boats have been modified to facilitate both conventional fisherman and fly-fisher alike. The casting platforms have been modified on the aluminum boats, which are fly fishing friendly. Carpeted platforms and snag free edges to save fly lines from getting damaged. All boats are powered by 55 hp & 60hp Yamaha outboard motors, which get the anglers to fishing spots swiftly.

Boats take a maximum 2 fly fisherman and 3 lure fisherman per outing. The inflatables are used in the lower water from July to February to access the rapids and channels around the islands in the area. These areas are inaccessible by boats or by foot so anglers have exclusivity of these virgin waters.

    Best Time for Fishing

While fishing is generally good most of the year, different months and seasons offer different species to the angler. More species are available when the water is warmer and clearer, which is generally during the summer months. The seasonal rains (October-November) introduce more oxygen into the system, making the tiger fish, in particular, more active and aggressive.

Fishing during May-August (the winter months) can be superb as the water from the annual floods start draining off the flood plains bringing thousands of baitfish back into the main channels. Large concentrations of tiger fish between four and twenty pounds gather around these areas and often go on a feeding frenzy making them easy targets to hook – but not to land!

The tiger fish chase the baitfish to the surface forming bait balls, and one can sight fish these huge fish when they break the surface. Fishing with Rabbit patterns like the Yellow Rabbit and Malcolm’s Rabbit as well as large Deceivers and Clouser Minnows flies or Effzett spoons for the lure anglers are very effective. Nor is it uncommon to latch into a monster Nembwe whilst targeting the tiger fish.
