    Company Information

Dhipirri Barra Safaris is a quality tourism product that offers clients the unique opportunity to discover the magnificent billabongs and waterways of the Northern Territory in pursuit of the legendary barramundi. Fishing charters essentially operate all year round, with the exception being during the monsoonal rains, which occur between late December to the end of February.

Barramundi are caught all throughout the year in the Top End. The more “explosive fishing generally occurs due to the wet season and the monsoonal rains. Record fish frequently being landed in the “Run Off” which usually starts in February and goes until early June. I recommend that clients book early for these periods, especially for the “run off” which has established a worldwide reputation for excellent barramundi fishing.

To take full advantage of the tremendous fishing during these times, extended trips are also highly recommended. The Top End also offers great fishing in the “Dry Season” which starts around June and finishes late October. Due to this time of year we are usually fishing in mainland billabongs and estuaries, which not only offer excellent fishing but unforgettable picturesque fauna and flora.

Reef fishing is also available all year round pending on tides. Where we will be targeting extra large Black Jew fish, Golden Snapper plus various other reef species.

We have a 7 metre customised Barra boat built to Northern Territory Marine Survey requirements with full safety equipment. This enables us to take 4 clients Barra Fishing and 6 clients Bluewater Fishing plus guide giving you maximum comfort and utmost safety.

All fishing gear is provided (except for fly fishing) and clients are welcome to bring their own. I guarantee a personalised safari that caters for fishing enthusiasts with all levels of experience. One on One

One on One Exclusive Charters operate from Noosa and offer offshore fishing, river and bay crusing along with sunset dining. All this takes place on a 34 ft KevlaCat Magnum Flybridge crusier.

Our fishing charters are designed for Game Fishing – Bill Fish, Tuna, Mackerel, Wahoo and Dorado. Reef Fishing – Snapper, Sweet Lip, Jew Fish and drag jew, Red Emperor, Moses Perch, Venus Tusk, Maori Cod, Perch and many more.

    Game Fishing

From November to May the Sunshine Coast is great for juvenile Black Marlin and Sailfish we catch them trawling or drifting with live bait and often get snapper as well.

Longtail tuna appear in schools around the 10kg with Yellow Fin Tuna being caught earlier in November and December.

Bonito arrive early as well often in September and can give you a good work out on light tackle.

Mackerel arrive in schools as well and can be caught from November through to June if you are lucky. Spanish Mackerel are often around 10kg and spotted at 5kgs.

We use different techniques to target these fish from metal lures being cast into a school through to burley and cube, but trolling with lures and bait can cover more ground.

Wahoo can be caught if you are doing 10-15knots but they are not as common as the mackerel and is often caught going for Billfish.

Dorado are another regular in these waters and are one of the best eating fish around.

    Reef Fishing

The reefs on the Sunshine Coast hold alot of variet of fish as listed above, so it is rare to come away empty handed, with Snapper as the prized catch. They are often caught in the winter from April to October but are there all year round and average upto 3kg with some bigger ones as well.

Some of the species listed further up arrive at different times of the year depending on the currents.

    Crusing

Blue Lightning photo1Blue Lightning Photo 2

    Company Information

At Blue Lightning charters we use Blue Lightning, a 55ft Conquest charter vessel powered by a V10 820 Doosan engine. Blue Lightning was first launched in 1993 and named First Light and was originally sent to work as a crayboat out of Fremantle. Later in 2000 it was purchased by Captain Tony Merrutio and renamed Crustacea 3. Tony cray fished the boat between Jurien Bay and Bunbury fishing 112 pots.

At the end of the 2005 crayfish season Bill and Chad Mills purchased Crustacea and renamed her Blue Lightning III and thats not the only change they made. With 18 years knowledge of the charter industry between them they went to work setting Blue Lightning up into a very comfortable and practical charter vessel which now operates between Mandurah and Dampier.. The skipper Chad Mills has had his Master Class V Ticket since early 2004. Due to his parents owning Mills Charters in the early days he has been involved with the charter industry most of his life.

Chad has been crewing on vessels from a very early age and the experience he has gained stands out in the way he conducts his charters. Chad has a major passion for gamefishing; he spent four years skippering a gameboat and caught his first Blue Marlin at the age of 14 and has had numerous gamefish since.

Chad has been skippering boats up and down the W.A. Coast for a number of years now and knows most of these areas exceptionally well. He is a very experienced skipper for his age and has a natural ability to deal with people.! Our deckhand is a young enthusiastic student who has just left school and is proving to be capable and likeable amongst the passengers!
